When I posted about my music downloads, I meant to ask you what you’ve downloaded recently and if it’s any good. What have you downloaded recently? Is it any good?

Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga has been occupying my life for awhile now, it has groovitude. Also the latest Against Me! album, New Wave; ‘Spitting Venom’ by Modest Mouse on We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank; ‘Flashing Lights’ by Kanye; and ‘None Shall Pass’ by Aesop Rock. And I really like ‘Please Read The Letter’ from that same Robert Plant & Alison Krauss album.

I have really been digging: the new minus the bear, Cocorosie, neutral milk hotel, human television, the new matt pond PA.
I just went to Kings of Leon twice in the past two weeks, once in NYC at radio city music hall and on monday in New Haven. Fantastically tight pants. They are the quintessential rockers.

While I usually live for such lists, and make them exhaustive (Howard will concur); since I don’t know you, here’s a shortlist of relatively recent stuff. And Howard is right about Against Me!. They’ll make you want to jump up & down, punch someone, help them up, and sign up for their weekly socialist-anarchist sewing group. And I’m really jealous of someone that’s seen the Kings of Leon once, let alone twice. And it’s not for the tight pants.

    The Cribs-“Men’s Needs” (CSS remix)
    Albert Hammond, Jr-Yours to Keep
    Andrew Bird
The Coup–especially “ShoYoAss” and “Laugh, Love, Fuck”
    Datarock–“Fa Fa Fa”
The Rentals–The Last Little Life EP
Solomon Burke–Nashville, and everthing else he’s ever done.
    Sparklehorse
Wreckless Eric-“Whole Wide World”. It’s the song Will Ferrell sings in Stranger Than Fiction.

Howard has a friend who gets to hang out with albert hammond Jr, or Hammy to his friends. I am trying to weasel my way back stage. I think i have a good chance. As for the KOL, are you jealous that you can’t fit into such pants?

Sweet. I am going to have to check out all this stuff and judge you all by it. Who is this Howard character? He sounds attractive.
Darcy, are you trying to start a fight about pants on my blog?

  6. Darcy 10/4/07 at 4:37 pm #

Howard just thinks he is attractive, he has a snaggletooth and likes to wear pastels. I will speak no more of tight pants, only to say that howard would not look good in them.

I am uncomfortable with such blatant overuse of what is a sensitive topic for me, namely my middle name. I blame you for this Ansley.

howard, i’ve come to live with my middle name. and no, i’m not jealous, nor bitter about the tight pants. I probably could fit into them, but then i’d be paranoid about people noticing my junk, and i’d be walking funny.

okay, i found some more music. i couldn’t resist:
Young Galaxy–“Outside the City”; The National; Gore Gore Girls; Holy Fuck; Iron & Wine; The Walkmen’s newer ablum–A Hundred Miles Off.
The Magnetic Fields–69 Love Songs (all 3 volumes)
and apparently on Ben Lee’s website you can download his project where he covers the new Against Me! album in its entirety.

Tommy, you have a serious problem. If you remember, the question was: “What have you downloaded recently? Was it good?” A simple question for most people. Jojo spoke of FOUR songs she had downloaded recently, plus the as yet unlistened to album of which one is a part, and mentioned another in passing. I referenced said album, along with four other songs. By my count you have now proceeded to rattle off 7 artists/groups (several of which have multiple albums), 5 albums (one with 69 songs), and 10 specific songs. I estimate that puts you at 400+ songs right now. You need to get control of yourself.

    Love,
    Howard

Whitney, don’t scare off my commenters. This is the most action I’ve ever had.

yeah whitney. everyone appreciates tommy’s thorough lists. just shut up.

don’t let your hate consume you, Howard. don’t go that route.

I’m just saying that there’s a reason why Tommy is known in some circles as The Music Nazi. He can’t control himself, and I don’t think that we should be supporting that type of habit. But hey, it’s not my blog. If you’re lucky he’ll post his list of 94 things he thinks you should be listening. It’s a good list, except for #25. A bunch of kids singing in a gym with bad acoustics. I don’t understand the appeal. Darcy, if you’re lucky you’ll finally get that lockjaw taken care of.

by the way, the album with the kids singing is by The Langley Schools Music Project, and it’s called Innocence and Despair.
